How To Emboss Using Dies

Morning fellow crafters

I hope you're having a wonderful day.

For today's card I decided to do a follow on from the last post/video I shared where I show how to emboss using dies. It's super easy to do and you get more out of your dies than just die cutting - awesome right? :)

The sandwich you need to do this (by sandwich I mean the plates needed for your die cutting machine, this will vary depending on which one you have but I used my Cuttlebug this time);

  • A plate

  • C plate

  • Spellbinders tan embossing mat

  • Piece of card you want to emboss

  • Your die face down into the card, the same way as if you were going to die cut the card, I used Neat & Tangled's Heart of Gold die

  • B plate

Then simply run it through your machine and voila you just embossed using your die.

Now, there may be some differences when embossing with dies and you may find that you don't get a deep enough impression. In this case you will want to play around with it to see what works with your machine. I used a piece of card on top of the B plate before running my sandwich through the machine as this gave me a deeper impression but it's all about you and what you want your project to look like.

I then stamped and die cut the Lawn Fawn Stinkin' Cute stamp and die set using Versafine onyx black ink. I colored the images using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers in the following colors and a Derwent watercolor brush pen (1);

  • 25 Pink

  • 91 Light Gray

  • 22 Carmine Red

  • 50 Yellow

  • 81 Light Violet

  • 10 Black

I used a Wink of Stella glitter pen to add sparkle to some of the elements. Once that had dried, which doesn't take long, I used Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Glaze over the top for some shine. I also used the Hampton Art Stamp Positioning Tool to make sure my sentiment was straight.

My card base is a standard US 4.25 x 11 folded at 5.5 to create a top folding white card.

This was such a neat card to make and I had fun doing it. Just remember that's the whole point, to have fun and enjoy your hobby.

Here is the video I made for this card however you can find more videos and fun projects by clicking the video tab on my blog.
